A dance exchange is a welcoming event that brings dancers from all walks of life to share their passion and joy for this dance we all love. It is this welcoming quality, joy and passion, that was beautifully embodied by two dear dancers of our dance communities in San Diego and Los Angeles. To two beautiful people we dearly miss, Amy Denissen and Carl Flores, we honor and dedicate the first year opening of the San Diego Balboa and Lindy Exchange.
Amy was the epitome of grace and beauty on and off the dance floor. She was an accomplished dancer that loved Lindy Hop and Balboa. To see her on the dance floor was to see pure joy and a beautiful smile that radiated and touched all who met her. She was all about community and always welcoming of everyone. She is loved and missed by many. To beautiful Amy we dedicate the San Diego Balboa and Lindy Exchange. We spread the joy of dance to all, knowing that Amy will be looking over us with that beautiful smile.
Many dancers in San Diego and across the country fondly remember Carl as their first friend in the community. He embodied the same warmth and authenticity on or off the dance floor, in lindy hop, balboa, or blues. A talented DJ, skilled vocalist, considerate lead, and genuine friend, he welcomed everyone with open arms and was, at the same time, fiercely protective of the community, ensuring that everyone felt safe and heard. Carl would always have a big smile and a warm hug ready for anyone who wanted one. He is dearly loved and missed by all who knew him.
